Are you ready for international Transition Health Check month?
By Sarah McAdam 21st February 2019
Not long to go now to the launch of the first International Transition Health Check Month on 1 March. We hope your Transition group will join others around the world as they come together to reflect on how Transition is going in their community.
We’ve already heard from many people that the health check has helped reinvigorate and refocus their group. It provides a framework for a conversation covering key aspects of Transition. Here’s your chance to really dig deep into what is challenging and what is going well for your group, identifying what you want to keep doing and what you might want to stop or change. Even better, you get to do this as part of a much bigger international experiment. It is so important in these times for us to connect, support each other and share our experiences across borders and differences!
But don’t take it just from us. Here’s what Transition Granja Viana in Brazil have to say about their experience of doing the health check…
Helping the Transition movement to help itself
Transition Network is developing a new platform where Transition Groups will be able to upload their health check scores. This way, we’ll start to build a meaningful, living picture of the health of the global Transition Movement. Not only will the health check be immediately useful for your Transition Group, but the aggregated results will influence the development of new support and resources, potentially help start wider conversations about next steps for the Transition movement and can be used to influence decision-makers, funders, the media and others. Let’s make our movement more visible and explore its potential together!
How to take part
The healthcheck is very simple to do – you just need a little preparation to be ready to complete the process in March:
- Download the health check here https://transitionnetwork.org/do-transition/healthcheck/ (it’s available in 15 languages so we hope there is a version that you can use!)
- Arrange for members of your Transition Group to get together for 3 – 4 hours some time in March 2019
- Agree that at least one of your group will read through the health check guide before the meeting, so they can lead the process.
That’s it!
You can apply your own style and find ways to make the event even more nourishing and fun. Some groups have arranged a shared meal beforehand or a party afterwards. Some have chosen an interesting venue or have come together in a space where they feel connected to nature. You may be able to find someone from outside your group who will act as a facilitator.
We will be posting further information here in the days leading up to International Transition Health Check Month. Then on 1 March, we will launch the process and provide more guidance about how you can share the results from your group.
We hope you will join us in this exciting international experiment. If you are a Facebook User, please register your interest here so we can build up a picture of who is participating.
