Book review: The End of Money and the Future of Civilisation
By Ed Mitchell 29th March 2011
Thanks to John Bristow for reviewing “The End of Money and the Future of Civilisation” by Thomas Greco – below is some of his summary or read the full review on the Societal Innovation and Learning website.
I found the book by Tom Greco very interesting and relevant to rebuilding local economies and finding forms of exchange and investment that keep goods and services, and saving and borrowing, flowing within them – and that protect local economies somewhat from the instabilities of the global financial system.
He provides an excellent analysis of the recent history and problems with our money system and how it contributes to unsustainable growth and social inequity.
Then he sets out alternatives, and how to make them work and bring about change.
I have written a summary – initially to make the book clear to myself. This is available as the first entry on my new website (which I hope will be populated by examples of relevant innovations in accessible and attractive forms (video, short text and photos etc).
I see this as very relevant to anyone interested in local resilience, local exchange and currencies and new economic paradigms that fit the challenges and opportunities of our times, read more on the societal innovation and learning website
