Editing the Social Reporting Homepage
By Ed Mitchell 6th November 2012
This is for Social Reporters who are editing the Social Reporting homepage.
To add the featured story you can go straight to step 14 on this page or read the ‘setting the featured story’ handy guide separately.
- Click on configure content pane text that appears when you roll your mouse over the top left corner of the Introduction section
- In the editing screen, scroll down to the ‘Body’ section. You will see text in it
- Add your text as you would in your blog posts in the ‘WYSIWYG’ editor
- Adding a picture: In the editing page, click on the tree picture in the WYSIWYG editor
- Insert/edit image box appears. In the General tab you will see empty boxes. Click on the little icon at the end of the ‘Image URL’ box
- The Image Manager’s File browser appears.
- Click on ‘Upload’ in the left hand corner of the top bar of the File Browser. Another box opens.
- Click on Choose file. The ‘File Browser’ of YOUR OWN computer appears. Find the picture you want and click on submit.
- The file will appear in name in the Image Manager’s File Browser. Click on the ‘Upload’ button underneath the ‘thumbnails’ options. There will be a moment while the image is sent to the website’s Image Store. Once it is done, click on ‘Insert file’ in the top bar on the right.
- The ‘Insert/edit image’ box re-appears with your picture in it.
- To place the image (left align etc.), click on the ‘Appearance’ tab. Set the alignment, and size for the image. A good size is approximately 240 pixels wide. The height will scale proportionately.
- Click on the ‘General tab’ again, and then click on the ‘Insert’ button. You may need to expand the ‘Insert/edit image’ box to see the ‘Insert button’.
- Now you are back at the main page editing screen with your picture in the text. Hurray.
- To set the ‘Featured Story’ on the homepage: Click on the ‘Edit Panel’ tab at the top of the Social Reporting homepage
- Click on Contexts in the middle left panel and select ‘featured story’
- In the ‘Edit context ‘Node” dialogue box that pops up, start typing the title of the featured story
- Scroll to the very bottom and click ‘Update and Save’

Hurray you think, I’ve finished – OH NO – one more thing – you need to set the ‘Featured Story’ – this is one last step, doesn’t take long, don’t go anywhere quite yet…
To Set the Featured Story on the Stories homepage
14. Click on the ‘Edit Panel’ tab at the top of the Social Reporting homepage
15. Click on ‘Contexts’ in the middle panel (slightly to the left), and then click on the cog next to ‘featured story’
You need to have published the blog post you are going to feature by the way!
16. In the ‘Edit context ‘Node” dialogue box that pops up, start typing the title of the featured story
It will present you with an autocomplete thing which should bring up the title of the item you’re looking for.
This can be quite specific, so make sure you know the *exact* title of the post you are featuring (capitals and all)
Click submit – the pop up will close
17. Click on ‘Update and Save’ at the very bottom of the page
So when you’ve done #3, scroll all the way to the bottom of the main ‘panel admin’ page and choose ‘Update and save’.
It’s a really long page full of computer guff, go all the way to the bottom
That’s it done. You should go back to the ‘panels’ admin page. And from there you need to re-type the Stories URL into the browser URL field …
