How to work on and find your unpublished blog posts
By Ed Mitchell 30th September 2011
It is possible to work on blog posts without publishing them – as ‘unpublished’. This gives you the chance to tweak and fiddle and edit so you can get it just right, without the post going live onto the site, or anyone getting any ‘new content’ alerts. This is recommended.
This post also shows you how to use the ‘my content’ feature in your user account so you can find your posts.
- Setting to unpublished
- Your item appears unpublished
- Publishing your item
- Unpublishing your item
- Finding your items with my content
1. When you are writing your post, click on the ‘publishing options’ option just above the ‘submit’ button
If you don’t want your item published, make the box NOT ticked before you click ‘submit’:
2. Your item appears, with a ‘publish’ tab at the top:
It is NOT published. I bet you can guess what to do if you want to publish it, mmm? (see step 3…)
3. To publish it, click on the ‘Publish’ tab
It will be published, and look like this, with a handy status alert just above it, telling you what’s going on. You will also notice the tab has changed to ‘unpublish’. No prizes for guessing what that does – see step 4:
4. To ‘Unpublish’ it, click on the unpublish tab
You will get another handy status alert, and the tab will change back to ‘publish’:
5. To find your content, use the ‘my content’ tab in your user account.
Get to your user account by clicking on your name in the top right when you are logged in. When you are on your user account page, find the ‘my content’ tab and click on it. Your content will appear. You can organise it by title, date posted, or by type (if you have multiple types):
