Transition Network is Looking for Trustees
By Yaz Brien 26th February 2021
Do you have experience, values, a fresh perspective, and time to commit to helping us deliver on our purpose and strategy?
As trustee, you would join an innovative organisation, using shared governance structures and processes. Our trustees exercise their legal responsibilities while working within a non-hierarchical governance model, empowering all members of the team to act autonomously and to input into key decisions.
“... the facilitative and decision making processes practised by TN are the most innovative, human and effective that I have experienced in any organisation. Taking part in these processes has fed into my professional and community practice in many ways.”
The contributions of our trustees often come from the sense of perspective they can bring that is zoomed out from the day-to-day work of the team, as well as drawing on their experience in Transition groups and Hubs, or their work in aligned environmental, social, cultural or economic fields.
Transition Network is a charity registered in England and Wales, working internationally to support the Transition movement. We’re looking for new trustees from a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences who can help guide our strategy and join an ongoing experiment in shared governance.
Currently we have four trustees – meet them here. We are hoping to recruit two new trustees in this process to bring our total up to six.
Trustees are part of our Primary Circle, setting and guiding our strategic direction; exercising the responsibilities required by England & Wales charity law; and taking other roles in our team and structure as skills, capacity, interest and opportunity allow.
We welcome applications from people with no previous experience as trustees, and offer a supportive and collaborative stewarding process to bring new trustees into the organisation. We want to hear your perspective on the experiences and skills you can bring to help Transition Network respond to a time of accelerating and interconnected crises.
Being a trustee is an unpaid, voluntary role.
Interested? You can find out more about Transition Network and the role of Treasurer in our TN Trustee Information Pack 2021.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 11th April 2021. If you have any queries that are not covered in the pack, or would like to send us your application – drop us a line at trustee-recruitment@transitionnetwork.org
We look forward to hearing from you!

I would love to contribute in some way. I’ve been working on the same issues, but from a different angle, for the last 6 years. Feel free to have a look: http://www.fndr.com
I would be interested in a trustee role with Transition Network having been Trustee Director of Plants For A Future (pfaf.org) for 14 years. PFAF provides, and continues to develop and enhance, a free to use online database of plants information for those interested in food forests and other plantings of unusual useful plants for local self-reliance. We have also published a series of books, with a new one coming out soon entitled ‘Plants for Your Food Forest’.
Hi Christine,
We don’t check website comments over the weekend, but hopefully you got your application in by yesterday’s deadline.
