New password request bug
By Ed Mitchell 15th September 2010
If you are having problems with your request for a new password, please read on.
(Update – we sorted it! Yes! Phew. It is like being the cat pulling at the string – you pull it, and in true systemic manner, all mayhem breaks loose elsewhere. We think it’s sorted now…)
Our ‘new password request’ system has a bug in it – the system email you will have received, in some email packages, appears shortened by the email package (trying to be helpful), and may be broken by the package. Or, when you click the link, the system gets confused and fumbles your request. Either way, you see an ‘access denied’ page. And probably sigh. This is pain the you-know-where and we apologise. We call it ‘bug 40’.
It is a known bug, and being looked into by our hairiest technologist (he’s about as hairy as his very hairy dog, and, generally, the hairy-er the technologist the deeper they go, so this is a good thing), and being worked on by the drupal folks (drupal is a series of modules owned by various owners) and we have to await the fix.
(OCD cat picture thanks to the wonderful lolcats)
If you are having this problem, I can re-set your password for you and we can move on. Also, please forward me the entire email you received when you tried to request a new password. That will be very helpful.
Email Ed with your issue please
On the whole, I’d avoid requesting a new password for now, while we wait for the fix!
Thanks for your patience – the internet is a wild and wacky place and we don’t have control over it.
