Otesha Project UK: young people’s cycle tour + workshops and plays
By Ben Brangwyn 29th March 2011
Lovely project potentially coming to a Transition Initiative near you
We recently received notice of a project called Otesha UK. There are two elements to it:
- the offer of a workshop or performance
- the opportunity to volunteer
Here’s what they told us about the performance and workshops
In 2011 two groups of 18-28 year-olds cycle across the UK, living as a sustainable, consensus-based community, delivering workshops and performing a play in schools and youth clubs. We had a great response from the Transition Town movement last year, and I’d be really grateful if you could include a note about the summer tours in your next newsletter, as we’ve still got a few spaces left. A description of the volunteer opportunity is below – feel free to shorten if need be.
The two tours are going here:
Northern Soul 10th June – 23rd July
Starting in Snowdonia the team will be navigating north through the stunning Yorkshire Dales and the lovely Lake District, cruising from coast to coast and spinning into Scotland.
Tartan Trail 5th August – 17th September
With Edinburgh as the first stop this team will gallivant through glens, amble along outstanding Scottish coastline and roll around picturesque woodlands.
If we’ll be near you and you’d like to coordinate a visit, give us a call on 0207 377 2109 or email cycletours@otesha.org.uk.
Many thanks
Iona
Here’s what they told up about the volunteering opportunity
Gear up for a two-wheeled revolution – join a 2011 Otesha UK cycle tour!
Do something worthwhile with your summer! Join an Otesha summer cycle tour, deliver workshops and perform a play about environmental and social sustainability in schools and youth clubs as you cycle across the UK. There are two tours to choose from: Northern Soul (10th June – 23rd July) and Tartan Trail (5th August – 17th September).
We’ll be taking in the delights of the UK from our saddles, performing a play, making the world a better place, learning new skills (bike maintenance, theatre, consensus decision-making, sustainable and group living… the list goes on), meeting new friends, and generally making mischief.
If you’re 18 to 28 and passionate about creating a sustainable future, then come ride with us. Find out more at www.otesha.org.uk/cycletours. Places are first come, first served, so get your skates on!
If you have any questions or would just like to have a chat about it, then give us a call on 0207 377 2109 or email cycletours@otesha.org.uk.
