Shared leadership in the Transition Network: can you help?
By Philipp Grunewald 24th October 2022
Are you willing to bring your perspective and have time to commit? Do you want to help us reimagine and rebuild our world? Are you willing to share leadership responsibility?
In England and Wales, where the Transition Network is registered as a charity, trustees share leadership and legal responsibilities for an organisation. Together with the staff members they work on fulfilling the purpose of the organisation. You can join us now to do exactly that!
Develop your governance skills
By joining us in a trustee role you would become part of an innovative organisation, using shared governance structures and processes. Our organisation empowers trustees and staff members to develop themselves and the organisation in a supportive environment.
“The structure that we have developed feels more equitable, agile and effective and far better suited to an organisation seeking to support an emergent global movement and context.”
Bring your experiences to the fore
The contributions of our trustees often come from their diverse perspectives, skills and experience. This may be drawn from their participation in Transition groups and Hubs, or their work in aligned environmental, social, cultural or economic fields.
Transition Network is working internationally to support the Transition movement. We are seeking to recruit individuals whose background or lived experiences will bring extra depth and/or underrepresented perspectives to the Transition Network team. We work internationally, so we would particularly benefit from trustees with connections and experience of working and living beyond the UK context.
Currently we have six trustees – find out who they are. We are hoping to recruit two new trustees in this process.
Trustees are part of our Primary Circle, setting and guiding our strategic direction. They exercise the responsibilities required by England & Wales charity law and take on other roles in our team as capacity, interest and opportunity allow.
We welcome applications from people with no previous experience as trustees. We offer a supportive and collaborative stewarding process to help new trustees join the organisation. We want to hear about the experiences and skills you can bring to help Transition Network respond to a time of accelerating and interconnected crises.
Being a trustee is an unpaid, voluntary role.

“I have learned a huge amount which I am able to implement into other voluntary and paid roles.”
