Switch to ethical energy and earn money for your initiative
By Ed Mitchell 12th September 2011
Our friends at Local United have been busy putting together a scheme with all of the leading ethical energy suppliers to help drive applications from community groups. Here is their announcement:
Local United has teamed up with a number of leading ethical energy suppliers (Good Energy, Cooperative Energy, Green Energy UK and Ecotricity) to offer community groups the chance to benefit financially from their members switching to one of these suppliers.
This scheme allows every community to benefit from this centrally managed affiliation scheme, and to generate somewhere around £500 to £2,000 each year for their own aims without each community needing to negotiate an individual deal for themselves. Local United will work with each community group to provide marketing material and operational support to help them recruit their members to the scheme.
With five out of the “big six” energy suppliers announcing price rises in the past few months now is the right time to be considering a more ethical alternative. All of the suppliers that we partner with take pride in the fact that they don’t have a confusing array of tariffs with short term deals but instead offer their customers consistently competitive rates with clear pricing structures.

Who are Local United?
Local United was founded by a group of social entrepreneurs who all have experience of working within community groups to get new social ventures off the ground. Local United was set up with the aim of helping communities to replicate that success by providing support, mentoring and practical advice to community groups wishing to set up their own social ventures that tackle peak oil and climate change.
