The Turning Point Film
By Ed Mitchell 20th September 2010
Our friends at the Findhorn Ecovillage in Scotland have made a short film intended to inspire and empower Transition Initiatives (as we wade our way through what can sometimes seem like too much doom and gloom) with a story of people succeeding in translating their dreams to reality, and the role of community in doing so.
NB: 01/11/10: The free DVD offer expired on 30th October 2010. If you would like to purchase a copy of “The Turning Point: a return to community”, please visit their website.
Thank you to Findhorn for dishing out 120 free copies to initiatives, and well done to the 20 of you who paid!
It is called ‘The Turning Point’ and they are offering it for free to up to 200 Transition Initiatives. Our advice? Get a copy, and spread the word.
It looks great and we thank them kindly for making it, and sharing it with initiatives on such a generous offer.
Here’s the blurb and the offer: …
‘The Turning Point: a return to community’ is an inspiring 40 min film showing innovative and practical ways to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, as currently practiced in and around the Findhorn Ecovillage in Scotland. You can see the trailer:
The film was made very much with the Transition movement in mind, as it seemed that there were many dis-empowering “doom and gloom” movies out there and not enough films that are uplifting and motivating. As well as practical examples of low carbon enterprise, the film features inspiring commentary from Joanna Macy, Richard Heinberg, Rob Hopkins and Dorothy Maclean, among others.
The film’s creators are willing to send a free DVD of the film to up to 200 Transition groups anywhere in the world that are interested in showing the film at an awareness-raising event. First come first served! Further information about the film can be found on the Turning Point website.
We would ask that the screening be held along the lines of our Group Screening guidelines.
‘The Turning Point: a return to community’ was largely self-funded so your screening donations will help us to cover the cost of producing and sending out free DVDs and will hopefully generate some funds with which we can continue to make inspiring films!
For your free copy or further details, please send your mailing address and the name of your Transition initiative via email to Lisa Mead. This offer expires on 30 October 2010.
