Transition groups and Climate Week
By Ben Brangwyn 23rd January 2011
“Climate Week” is all about letting people know what you’re doing about Climate Change
Update, 11-Feb-2011: Looks like there's going to be a lot of noise about RBS being a sponsor of this campaign/award on account of RBS'reprehensible investment record on Tar Sands in Alberta.
Friends of the Earth, GreenPeace, World Development Movement and Oxfam have all refused to be a part of it for these reasons.
I think it'll get rather messy (Ben Brangwyn, Transition Network)
There’s always a danger that a “—— Week” campaign let’s you off the hook for the other 98% of the year. Climate Week, however, looks a little different because it’s not about just doing something for a week. Instead, it’s a week to focus on showing others what we’re doing for the whole of the year.
Plenty of transition groups are already getting involved:
The organisers are really keen on Transition groups to also nominate themselves for the Climate Week Awards. There is only two weeks to go before the deadline (4th Feb) so keep an eye on that date. You could go for ‘Best Event’, ‘Best Community Initiative’ or ‘Most Inspirational Young Person’. It’s free to enter, just follow this link: www.climateweek.com/awards/
And just so you know, Climate Week is sponsored by a headline partner – Tesco – and four Supporting Partners – Aviva, EDF Energy, Kelloggs and RBS.
