Transition Heathrow: the most inspiring video of 2011 so far

When hard-core activism and transition combine…
When the Plane Stupid crew decided to help kick off a Transition Initiative in Sipson, a community threatened by Heathrow’s third runway, the outcomes were always going to be unpredictable. This was the first time we’d seen this potent mixture come together, and we watched how the initiative unfolded with a level of curiosity that bordered on fascination.
One of the most wonderful thing about climate activists is that where most of us see fences, they see doors. And that led to them squatting a derelict piece of land and totally transforming it into a rich community hub.
Their level of acceptance now within what was initially a skeptical community, is remarkably high. Their initiative has the support of hundreds of the locals, the local MP and the local policeman who frequently cites the statistic that crime in the area is down 50% since the initiative was set up.
They’ve been going a year now, and here’s a beautifully shot 10 minute movie of what they’ve been up to. It’s the most inspiring thing I’ve seen so far this year, and I think it’ll be extremely hard to beat.
Treat yourself to 10 minutes of inspiration and ask yourself, “Where am I seeing fences when I could be seeing doors?”.
