Would you like to host a Transition Roadshow?
By rob hopkins 27th May 2014
We are delighted to announce that we are now inviting applications to host one of four Regional Transition Roadshows to be held between October 2014 and March 2015. This is an offer only open to UK Transition initiatives, and we are really hoping for a good geographical spread across the country. We are holding the pilot roadshow on July 12th in Lancaster. Following on from our Transition Thursdays last year, these Roadshows offer a great opportunity to boost, reinvigorate, raise the profile of and generally celebrate Transition in your area. They’re an opportunity to bring the input of Transition Network to what you’re doing. They’re also going to be great fun, and we’d love to hear from you if you fancy hosting one (by Friday 20th June please using Expression of Interest form below).
Full information and a form for applying can be found below. The idea is that each Roadshow is a one day event, starting mid morning and finishing late afternoon (for the formal event) with also some kind of evening knees up or public event. What you choose to build around that (i.e. trainings, tours etc) is up to you. Transition Network will help by providing staff, support, some funding (amount to be confirmed), and help with promotion, ticketing and budgeting, a kind of ‘event in a box’.
It’s our opportunity to experiment with an alternative to the once-off annual conference and to do something that spreads the impact around a bit more, strengthens local networks between Transition groups, and gives an inspiring boost to, and celebration of, the Transition that’s already afoot. It’s over to you. Have a think.
Chat with your group and with neighbouring groups. How might it help to host a Roadshow? Who could you invite? How would it have the maximum impact? We’re here to design the event with you, and each one different and rooted in place. Everything you need to know is below. We look forward to hearing from you.
Here’s a sample of the feedback on the impact Transition Thursdays had:
Anne Weinhold, Transition Town Worthing:
“Our Transition Thursday has been inspirational not only to us in Transition Worthing but also to a lot of new friends of our group, including the Mayor of Worthing who now won’t stop talking about sustainability and Rob’s speech about resilient communities! Morale was boosted massively I’d say, as past Rob’s visit lots of new projects have been started, with 2-3 of them major that will take us as a grassroots movement to the next level”.
Joe Duggan of Transition Crystal Palace:
“Anecdotally it appears that anyone who joined around that time or even is aware of us because of that event, is taking us a lot more seriously and willing to make more of a substantial commitment. Our numbers have grown markedly since that event and I definitely think the launch was an important factor. In 3 words? Fantastic, unforgettable, energising”.
