Sustainable St Albans

United Kingdom

Transition St Albans organises events, films, and Sustainable StAlbans Week – It’s our district, we love it, and we want to make it sustainable, so people can love it for generations to come!
Together we find positive and creative ways to act locally to address the challenges of climate change, live more sustainably, and move towards/transition to… a low-carbon economy. For more see and

Projects 2017:

Open FoodGardens: Be Inspired! Visit our Open Food Gardens through summer 2017. See

Thermal Imaging Camera
We have two thermal imaging cameras for residents in St Albans District including Harpenden and the villages, to borrow. For more see

Electric Bike Day: in June 2017 we held an Electric Bike Day in Verulamium Park. Several hundred people took part, trying out a variety of electric bikes, from a range of suppliers.

Enviro-Mental Film Fest
As part of St Albans Film Fest we screened Tomorrow, and A Plastic Ocean.

Transition Streets: Transition Streets is a way to bring neighbours together to cut their household bills and their carbon footprint through taking practical action. It’s free to take part, and a great way to turn neighbours into friends. We have run 14 groups across the district and looking for more. See

Playing Out
We are working to get Playing Out established in the district, so that streets can close on a regular basis to allow children to play in the street without cars, brining the community together.

Sustainable St Albans Week
Working with our local St Albans Friends of the Earth we organise the award winning Sustainable St Albans Week. Over 130 groups took part in 2016 with two thousand people participating in events. The next week is 21-29 April 2018. To see more, and to join in go to
