Transition Town Andover
Early in 2010 a small number of very committed people organised a public meeting to propose the idea of forming a Transition Town group in Andover. Following this meeting a core group was set up and a constitution drafted. Project working groups were set up on the themes of food, green communities and schools.
In late 2010 a small community orchard was planted with the help of local residents and pupils from the local schools. Later pupils from the schools were involved in the design and making of a mosaic and tree guard for the orchard.
As people have moved away we have become a smaller group. Our current aim is to be an umbrella organisation so that all environmental groups can work together.
Currently we are the Lead Organisation for Refill Andover (with help from Andover Vision TVBC) and Support Repair Cafe Andover (hosted by Andover Mind).
One of our past initiatives is Andover Trees United, a community woodland project, started in 2012 charity 2016. This started as a 10 year project engaging children from the local schools to plant 10 thousand trees (a thousand a year). They have a 12 acre wood leased from the Country Council. . There are also memorial trees, 2 orchards and various other plantings in the community. Latterly a compost toilet has been installed. Please visit their website https://www.andovertrees.org.uk
A junior branch of ATU was created from children from various schools, who have attended Plant for the Planet academies www.plant-for-the-planet.org/ . The annual academies are assisted by TTA and ATU members
